Alvin Wayne Kennemer passed away October 26, 2015 in Athens, Alabama.
Visitation – Thursday, 10/29/2015, 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1917 US Hwy 72 west, Athens, AL 35611. Funeral – Friday 10/30/2015 at 2:00pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Family will receive friends prior to service 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery.
He was born October 10, 1939 as the youngest of 6 children to George Kennemer, Sr. and Annabelle Parker Kennemer on a farm in Anderson, AL. After graduating from West Limestone High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After an honorable discharge, he attended Martin College in Pulaski, TN and Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN. He then married Mary Anna Hagood of Minor Hill, TN on November 6, 1965 and they raised two daughters: Christie and Karla.
Alvin was the best husband and father to his family, a distinguished man of character and an outstanding Christian example to everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years: Mary Anna Kennemer, Two loving daughters Christie Bennett and husband Rex; Karla Shinkunas and husband Pete all of Athens, AL. Five grandchildren: Brittany and Blake Bennett; Ben, Jeb and Max Shinkunas. Two great-granddaughters: Kelsey and Gracelyn Whipple.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Annabelle Kennemer, and brother Otis Elwyn Kennemer.
He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
