Alveta Davis Lynch, age 91, of Sheffield, died Monday August 13, 2012.
Memorial services will be on Friday, August 17 at 1pm at First Presbyterian Church in Tuscumbia. Her family will receive friends Thursday, August 16 from 6pm until 8pm at Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia. The burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Sheffield and will be a private family interment.
Born in Parrish, Alabama on December 8, 1920, Alveta married Charles Randall Lynch on September 6, 1939. Mrs. Lynch worked for TVA before receiving her B.S. and Masters of Arts from Florence State University. She then worked in the Sheffield City School System for almost 20 years as the librarian at Willson Middle School. After retiring from the city school system, Mrs. Lynch volunteered for several years as the librarian at Covenant Christian School.
Alverta has been a member of First presbyterian Church of Tuscumbia since 1953. She was very active in the Women in the Church ministry, Missions program and as chuch librarian for many years. Alveta was a beloved member of the Travelers Sunday School class.
She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, was a wonderful cook and deeply loved her two boys, Danny and Chuck, and teir families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother. She is survived by her two sons; Joseph Daniel Lynch, wife Margaret, and grandchildren Murray Davis and Allison Amelia of Sterling, Virginia; Charles Randall Lynch, Jr., wife Susan and grandson Charles Randall, III of Huntsville, Alabama.
