Alton Glenn Wilson, a devoted veteran, law enforcement officer, and cherished member of his community, passed away on April 14, 2025, in Ashville, Alabama. Born on June 22, 1935, in Valley Head, Alabama, Glenn lived a life marked by service, faith, and love for his family.
Glenn proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force for 20 years. A veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars, he dedicated two decades to protecting and defending the nation he loved. Following his military retirement, Glenn continued his commitment to public service by working with the Alabama Department of Corrections. He later served for several years as a deputy with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department.
A man of faith, Glenn was a member of Greensport Baptist Church. His spiritual life was central to who he was he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ deeply. Known for his heartfelt singing and storytelling.
Glenn’s greatest pride was his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Ethel M. (Bertha) Wilson; son, Terry Wilson; daughter, Laquana (Mac) Massey; son, Al (Tonya) Wilson; sister, Joyce Wilson; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Wilson; mother, Sarah Wilson-Padgett; and sister, Helen McCartney.
Alton Glenn Wilson’s life was one of unwavering dedication-to his country, to justice, to faith, and above all to those he held dear. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
A visitation for Alton will be held Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Gum Springs Baptist Church, 7568 County Rd 33, Ashville, AL 35953, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Nick Wilson, Reagan Wilson, Matthew Wilson, Brad Porter, Jay Mitchell, and nephew, Steve McCartney.
Honorary pallbearers will be his great grandchildren, J.T, Landon, Rocky, T. J, Swayze, and Madden.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
