Alton Edward “Ed” Slaten, age 82, of Hokes Bluff, AL passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022, surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, February 28, 2022, at Collier-Butler Chapel. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Chaplin Joel Williams will officiate. The family will accept friends from 10:00AM until the hour of the service. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Slaten was a graduate of Glencoe High School class of 1957. He then served in the United States Army. He retired from heating and cooling services. Ed was a member of James Memorial Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a Deacon. He loved to watch football, watch westerns, and most importantly spend time with his family.
Mr. Slaten is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Kathryn Pruitt Slaten; parents, Alton and Dessie Slaten; sisters, Iwean Kleinklaus, and Doris Blevins; and nephew, Timothy Jason Faulkner.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Dana Slaten (David) Whitworth; grandson, Brent Edward Irwin; brothers, James Don Slaten and Gary Lamar (Cathy) Slaten; sister, Ada Slaten (Van) Faulkner; and many special nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to caregivers, Barbara, Cheyenne, Carolyn, Debra, and the nurses and staff of Amedysis Hospice.
