Alton Dwayne Cannady, 82, of Madison, Alabama died on Thursday, January 8, 2015, at his home in Madison. He had lived in the Ardmore area for several years. Funeral services will be Sunday, January 11 at 12:00 P.M. with visitation 10-12 at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in Ardmore, AL. Rev. Alan Hughes will be officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbia, Tennessee. He graduated from Culleoka High School in 1950.
Born January 21, 1932 in Columbia, TN, he was the son of the late Thomas and Nina Cannady. He was preceded in death by son: Michael Cannady, granddaughter: Caitlin Vial, three sisters: Janis Thurman, Barbara Lovell, both of Columbia, TN, and Jean Lewter of Ardmore, AL, and one brother: Gordon Cannady of Columbia, TN.
He is survived by wife: Geraldine Lovell Cannady of Madison, AL, three daughters: Karen Snider and husband Timothy of Lawton, Oklahoma, Danita Nichols and husband George of Sweetwater, TN, and Tina Parker of Athens, AL, one son: Jeffrey Cannady and wife Charlene of Montgomery, AL, daughter-in-law: Catherine Cannady of Hoover, AL, twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of First Baptist Church Ardmore. He served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1971. He was a member of Ardmore Masonic Lodge and Shriners International.
His grandsons will serve as pallbearers with Ardmore Veterans group as honorary pallbearers. Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
