Alta Marie Dill Bogush, 90, passed away Tuesday in Huntsville. She was born in Old Bridge, New Jersey.
Alta Bogush, a resident of Huntsville, AL since 1972, was a graduate of Glassboro University, now Rowan University, in Glassboro, New Jersey with credits acquired at Rutgers University. She taught all elementary grades and high school English. She developed writing skills that found their way into many publications beginning at college and continuing through her teaching career to the present time. Some of her publications have appeared in the Instructor, Inky Trails, Treasured Poems of America, The International Library of America and included in Who’s Who of American Women (1980-1981). She typed and edited two manuscripts that include History of the South Jersey Shore by Dr. Harold F. Wilson and Radar and the Atmosphere by Dr. Bogush.
Alta helped direct the local chapter of Association of the United States Army activities, was a Swim Official for Southeastern AAU and was president of SRI Woman’s Club, Lamplighter’s Literary Club, and Rocket City Toastmistress Club. Her awards include the Koki Award, Presidential Sports Award for Swimming, American National Red Cross 50 Mile Swim, and a commemorative plaque as one of the founders of the Old Bridge, NJ First Aid and Rescue Squad. She always maintained an active lifestyle that included walking, fishing, boating, swimming, music and won awards and accolades for swing dancing.
Alta Bogush is survived by her husband, Dr. Alfred Bogush; daughters, Diane Faulkner of Birmingham and Kathy Byrd of Huntsville; grandchildren, Jennifer Faulkner and Jimmy Faulkner of Birmingham, and Steven Byrd of Huntsville; and great-grandchildren, Jamey and Ruby Faulkner of Birmingham.
