Allen Ray Ligon, known by most as “Al” was born in Sheffield, AL on July 6, 1939 but grew up in Cherokee, a place near and dear to his heart.  A beloved husband, Father, and Grandfather with a zest for life and a love for laughter, Al was loved by many and never met a stranger.  You may have known Al because of a mutual love of Muscle Shoals music – he never missed a WC Handy fest – love of sports cars, and motorcycles. Many knew him as the laminator and delivering your special achievements or memories to you was one of his joys.  While a regular attendee at First Baptist church, Killen, he never passed up an invitation to your church if you invited him. Retiring in 2000 after working for Reynolds for 39 years, Al became a well-known figure around town. The folks at Steinmart, his Bojangles’ breakfast gang, Cherokee High School Alums, hisSunday School class, and his beloved friends at UNA’s Institute of Learning and Retirement were considered his extended family and he never missed an opportunity for a visit. The twinkle in his eye, his love of a good joke, and his laugh will be remembered often and missed by many.

Pallbearers will be Jim Wright, Larry Stevenson, Tommy Allen, Richie Robinson, Bob Reinlie, and Billy Darby. Honorary Pallbearers will be Stanley Olive, Harvel Scales, Harold Garver, Carl Counce, Senator Bobby Denton, William Lawrence Collum, Bobby James, George Petty, Jack Cochran, Ronnie Haas, Tommy Ligon, Jerry Ligon, Bobby James, and Buddy Willis
