Allan Francis Benson, Sr. passed away at his home June 27, 2016. He had been ill for the past two years. He leaves his wife Nelta Fay Benson; three sons: Allan Francis Benson, Jr. (Denise) of Streamwood, IL, Randy Moody (Luanne) of Blytheville, AR, Rowdy Moody (Jackie) of Brownsboro, AL; two daughters: Robin Jacobs of Brownsboro, AL, Debra Grissom of Muncie, IN; three deceased sons: Scott Benson, Bruce Benson, and Ronnie Moody. He leaves 12 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Benson served in the Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS New Port News from 1949 to 1950. Later, he transferred to the USS Rochester from 1950 to 1952 where he was Petty Officer 2nd Class. After discharge, he moved to his hometown of Forrest Park, IL and went to work for Motorola in the TV division. While there, Mr. Benson transferred to the lab department then the sales division. Motorola sent him to night school for nine years and received his EE Degree and took over the sales office in Chicago. He later transferred to the Huntsville sales office semi-conductor division where he was manager for the southern states. He retired on the first day of 1990.
Mr. Benson loved traveling and vacationing. He was a devoted father and husband who loved his family with his whole heart and soul. He will be missed by many many friends and family.
Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Berryhill Funeral Home. Chapel service will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. James Harrell officiating.
