Odom, Jr. Profile PhotoAlfred “Sonny” Bartley Odom, Jr., a devoted family man, cherished community member, and respected retired Specialty Technician with AT&T, peacefully entered his heavenly home on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the residence of his son in Jackson, Tennessee. He was 88 years old.

Born on October 15, 1937, in Columbus, Mississippi, the son of the late Alfred Bartley Odom, Sr. and Bernice Polk Odom, Sonny dedicated a significant portion of his life to his career at AT&T, where he served faithfully for thirty-two years. Throughout his professional career, he was known not only for his technical expertise but also for his dedication and integrity.

Family was the cornerstone of Sonny’s life. He was a loving husband to his late wife, Shurley Kovach Odom, and a devoted father to his children, Delynne Duerkes, Bart Odom and wife Paula, Kevin Odom and wife Vicki and Matt Odom and wife Beth. He was also a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, affectionately known as “Pop” by his thirteen grandchildren, John Williams Jason Alisauski, Jessica Alisauski, Justin Alisauski, Marcus Odom, Chris Odom, Eric Odom, Camille Odom, Luke Odom, Sadie Jeanes, Emily Odom, Thomas Odom, and Cecilia Odom and twenty great-grandchildren. Sonny is also survived by his brother Michael Odom. He was preceded in death by his daughter Delynne Duerkes, parents, Alfred Bartley Odom, Sr. and Bernice Polk Odom, and brother Philip Odom.

Sonny’s generosity and giving spirit extended beyond his family and career. He was an active member of The Church of Nativity in Bartlett, Tennessee, and a committed member of the Knights of Columbus. His commitment to his faith and community was unwavering. He found great joy in coaching his children and other youth league teams, demonstrating his passion for mentoring, and nurturing young lives. Additionally, Sonny was an avid golfer for many years and volunteered his time for various community projects, always eager to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed.

Known for his warm heart and generous nature, Sonny touched the lives of many. He balanced his talents and time with selflessness that earned him deep respect among family, friends, and neighbors alike.

SERVICES: A Memorial service to honor Alfred “Sonny” B. Odom, Jr.’s remarkable life will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at The Church of Nativity, located at 5955 St. Elmo Road, Bartlett, Tennessee 38135. The committal will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery of Memphis, TN
