ALEA Suspends Search For Missing Boater Sunday Evening ; Resumes Today

LAUDERDALE COUNTY – A single-vessel marine-related event occurred at approximately 3:21 p.m. Saturday, June 13, and has resulted in a missing boater. Lowell L. Hinton Jr., 61, of Corinth, Miss., fell overboard from the 20ft Tracker Pontoon boat that he was operating and did not resurface.

Hinton was not wearing a personal flotation device (PFD) when the incident occurred.

The incident occurred on Pickwick Lake near Yellow Creek and State Line Island in Lauderdale County. The following agencies: Mississippi Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), Mississippi Hardin County Fire Department, Mississippi Hardin County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), the Waterloo Volunteer Fire Department (VFD), Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Aviation Unit and ALEA Marine Patrol Troopers all responded to the scene and conducted search operations on Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14.

Search operations have been suspended for today but will resume tomorrow morning Monday, June 15.

Nothing further is available as ALEA Marine Patrol Troopers continue to investigate.
