ALEA Investigating Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting In Muscle Shoals

MUSCLE SHOALS – On Sunday, September 22, at the request of the Muscle Shoals Police
Department, Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State
Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting,
involving officers with the Muscle Shoals Police Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday, when officers responded to a call for service in the 300 Block
of Tuxedo Avenue West in Muscle Shoals. Once on scene, officers encountered an individual
with a knife. After repeated verbal commands to drop the knife, the individual lunged towards
the officers with the knife causing police to engage and shoot the suspect.

The suspect, later identified as Ronald Parrish, 68, of Muscle Shoals, was transported to Helen Keller Hospital
where he was pronounced deceased. An autopsy will be performed by the Alabama Department
of Forensic Sciences.

Nothing further is available as the investigation remains ongoing. Once complete, the findings
will be turned over to the Colbert County District Attorney’s Office.
