Albert Hulon Newton, 98, of Anderson, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025. He attended Lexington High School and was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II while stationed in Germany. He moved to Anderson in July 1951 and lived there for 68 years. While residing in Anderson, he was a barber for 47 years, the mayor of Anderson for 11 years and bank chairman for 40 years. He was also the Elk River Development Board Agency Chairman for 24 years and East Lauderdale Water Board for 26 years. Mr. Newton was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Anderson where he was the minister of music for 42 years. “The Lord led me to do these things” quote from Hulon.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 25th from 1 – 2 p.m. at Rogersville Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow in the chapel with Joel Newton and Will Weir officiating. Burial will be in Grassy Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Micah Embry, Brant Johnson, Cole Robbins, Whitney Owens, Brady Owens, Asher Owens, J.R. Fulks, Byron Newton and Mark Newton.
Mr. Newton was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas and Mary Frances Newton; wife, Oscarene Hammond Newton; brothers, Willard, Royce, Hubert (twin) and Charles Newton; sisters, Jessie Harlan, Cleo Fulks, Effie Fulks, Erma Newton, Edna Shook, Dura Mackey and Verna Morrison; great-granddaughter, Amelia Gail Owens.
He is survived by his daughters, Vickie (Phillip) Robbins, Shelia (Mark) Johnson and Amie (John) Embry; grandchildren, Micah (Courtney) Embry, Brant (Alisha) Johnson, Melia (Whitney) Owens and Cole (Adam McCabe) Robbins; great-grandchildren, Addi Embry, Lexi Embry, Emma Kate Johnson, Molly Ann Johnson, Brady Owens and Asher Owens.
The family would like to express thanks to the special caregivers, Janie Jones and Tammy Nelson for their love and care they provided to Mr. Newton.
