HUNTSVILLE-“Valley Arts and Entertainment” will host Alabama Women in Jazz Festival 2024 in Huntsville, Al on September 6,2024. This will be a full jazz experience with a hint of ‘Latin Jazz”.

Here is what you should expect!

Valley Arts and Entertainment, Inc. is thrilled to announce its annual Alabama Women in Jazz Festival 2024 that promises to be an unforgettable experience for jazz lovers. The event “A Total Jazz Experience with a hint of Latin,” will take place on Friday, September 6, 2024, at The Speakeasy inside Straight to Ale (Campus 805); and will feature an impressive lineup of talented women in jazz musicians.

This special event aims to celebrate the vibrant culture of jazz music genres, be a part of the Huntsville September Music Month in the City of Huntsville and offer a unique opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy an evening of soulful melodies, and Latin jazz rhythmic grooves. Attendees can look forward to performances by Headlining artist, Rachel Therrien, Canadian jazz trumpeter, flugelhorn player and composer.

Rachel Therrien is a Grammy Awards nominee, nominated in 2022 for her (2022 Virtual Birdland, Arturo O’Farrill “Best Latin Jazz Album”) to name a few. Her repertoire includes Afro-Cuban jazz and straight-ahead jazz. A local instrumental backup band named Nossa Samba will accompany her. Nossa Samba (performs Brazilian jazz and straight-ahead jazz in the Huntsville area); they will also feature their band member and dynamic flautist, Sharla Bell who is a fantastic musician and vocalist who sings in Portuguese.

Finally, kicking off the evening with a Soiree Party at 6pm is Boniechia James, a local vocalist who hails from Cleveland, Ohio and is now a Huntsville resident. She performs locally and regionally and is a member of the Huntsville Blast Artist roster. Boniechia will perform a “Tribute to the late Angela Bofill” who left us this past June 2024; Angela Bofill was an American singer, songwriter and composer of Cuban-Puerto Rican origins and a New York native.

Valley Arts and Entertainment, Inc. is excited to host this jazz event in an intimate setting with our community venue sponsor Straight to Ale (Campus 805), who has joined us to present this unique way of bringing people together, and we hope this event will inspire and uplift everyone who attends.

In addition to the live performances, the event will feature: Food and Beverage: Enjoy delicious food (free soiree only) and open cash bar. Meet and Greet Artists. SOIREE A limited number of VIP tickets will be available for the kickoff “Soiree Party” so be sure to secure your spot soon! Revenue from ticket sales support Valley Arts Afterschool 2024-25 Music program for youth of the HHA residences.

JAZZ FESTIVAL: The FREE jazz festival follows immediately after soiree at 8:00pm -10:30pm (open bar and food for purchase will be available).
