NR Winter Weather 010314CLANTON-The National Weather Service is predicting below freezing temperatures beginning late
Sunday night through Wednesday for much of Alabama. Overnight low temperatures maybe
single digits for Monday night through Tuesday morning. We will also face prolonged below
freezing temperatures for several days.
The Alabama Emergency Management Agency will be monitoring this weather and will stay in
close communication with the National Weather Service offices across the state until temperature
reach normal levels.
As with any severe weather threat, preparation is critical. People, pets and property are the items
you want to ensure are safe in the coming days.
Here are a few tips:
Dress warmly and wear loose layered attire
Have emergency heating equipment in case you lose power
Check on family/friends without a sufficient heating source
Use caution with heaters, fireplace and furnaces, making sure they are 3ft away from
combustible items
Have a sufficient supply of emergency food and water for all family members
Wrap or insulate water pipes to prevent freezing
Bring pets indoors, move livestock to a sheltered area

A wintry mix maybe possible Sunday afternoon through Sunday night.
