ATHENS – The Alabama Center for the Arts will host the 75th National Annual Exhibition of the Watercolor Society of Alabama.  The exhibition will hang from May 15 to July 15 and will include approximately 110 works on paper by artists from all regions of the U.S. There will be an opening reception on Sunday, May 15, from 1-4 p.m.

The Watercolor Society of Alabama (WSA) was organized in 1939 by a group of artists. It was organized for the purpose of advancing the art of water media painting in order to contribute to the enrichment of the State of Alabama cultural environment. The society provides an opportunity to the art viewing public to observe excellent artwork from all regions of the United States.

In conjunction with the juried exhibit, there will be a watercolor workshop May 12 through 14 lead by a nationally known watercolor artist, Janet Rogers. The workshop will be held at the Alabama Center for the Arts, located at 133 2nd Avenue NE in Decatur, Alabama. The cost for the workshop is $350 for WSA members and $380 for non-members.

“We are thrilled to be the host for this state exhibition of national artists,” says Alabama Center for the Arts Director Jennifer Bunnell. “The workshop by Janet Rogers is also something that I feel will be of great interest to local artists.”

On Friday, May 13, 6-8 p.m., there will be an after hours watercolor painting demonstration by Janet Rogers at the Alabama Center for the Arts. This event is free and open to the public as seating will accommodate.
