Florence Arts & Museums Presents Canaan Sunday, March 15th

FLORENCE-Florence Arts & Museums is happy to announce the premiere of Canaan on Sunday, March 15th at 2:30 pm at Handy Recreation Center, 1105 Beale Street. The documentary follows the lived experiences of Black residents who lived in Canaan. The documentary features interviews, photographs, maps, and memories that tells the story of what today is now a part of West Florence. Coordinated by Ms. Anita Smith Cobb, the interviews will document the childhood, school, church, and extracurricular activities of the community members.
This presentation follows Ms. Anita Smith Cobb’s completion of the “East End,”  “Stewart Spring,” and “North Florence” projects, the latter of which is available on our website, www.florencealmuseums.com. This program is sponsored by Florence Arts & Museums, Handy Recreation Center, and the Alabama Humanities Alliance. This event will be free to the public. Call 256-760-6379 for more information.
