WASHINGTON, DC-On Thursday, December 12, Congressman Robert Aderholt, (AL-04) released the following statement for his support for H.R. 19, The Lower Costs, More Cures Act, and his opposition to the plan passed by House Democrats, H.R. 3.
“There is no question that prescription drug prices are too high. For rural areas, like much of the 4th Congressional District, this legislation was a chance to bring some relief from high health cost. There isn’t a big box store on every corner in places like Carbon Hill, Fyffe, or Baileyton. Instead, rural areas depend on community drug stores where the pharmacist knows their name, their children’s names and might even sit on the same church pew with them. But that community pharmacist doesn’t have the negotiating power of a big chain store, resulting in higher prices. The Republican plan (H.R. 19) will bring stability and predictability to their businesses through increased, much-needed transparency and oversight.
“Republicans have continuously tried to work with our colleagues across the aisle to help find a sensible solution that makes medicine more affordable to all Americans. Democratic leadership decided they weren’t interested and instead supported a plan that sees socializing medicine as a solution, even if it results in finding fewer lifesaving cures in the future. I could not and will not support such a plan.
“I call on my colleagues in the House and Senate to do the right thing and pass the plan (H.R. 19) that will deliver on lower costs and more life-saving cures to the most vulnerable amongst us. Let’s choose to make real progress for America’s patients.”
