WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Robert Aderholt today released the following informational statement on visiting Washington, D.C.

“While many people still have their Christmas decorations up, spring is just around the corner.  And now is the time to start planning your family’s trip to Washington, D.C. Our nation’s capital is an excellent choice that is filled with great history, great monuments and great sites.  An added bonus is that many of the sites in Washington do not charge an entrance fee.  If it is on your list this spring or summer, I have some tips on making the most out of your trip.

“One of the most important reasons to plan your trip now, is if you want to tour the White House. Tickets for White House tours are free and available through my office, but there are some very important details to keep in mind.  Due to security, we cannot process requests that come to us less than 21 days from your visit.  In fact, we recommend requesting tickets approximately three months in advance because they are granted on a first come, first served basis.  Request tickets on my official website at: https://aderholt.house.gov/services/tours-and-tickets

“I also invite you to visit the place where I work, The United States Capitol Building.  Tours of the Capitol also have no entrance fee and are available through my office.  Your tour will include the Capitol Visitor Center, Crypt, Rotunda, Statuary Hall, and the gallery of the House Chamber where you can see lawmakers at work.

“I also highly recommend a visit to Arlington National Cemetery.  It is a solemn and very touching reminder of the sacrifices so many have made to keep our country free.  In addition, President’s William Howard Taft and John F. Kennedy are buried at Arlington, along with the graves of the astronauts of the Space Shuttles Challenger and Columbia.

“The different Smithsonian museums are free, and hold some of our nation’s most treasured artifacts, from the Wright Brother’s plane, to the Apollo 11 crew capsule to Dorothy’s ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz.

“A visit to the many memorials along the National Mall are also stops I recommend.  At the World War Two Memorial, you might even spot World Two Veteran and former Senator Bob Dole.

“Whatever your plans in Washington call for, please contact my office to let me know you will be in town.  Again, visit our website: https://aderholt.house.gov/services/tours-and-tickets

And I hope to see you soon in Washington.”
