Mrs. Addie P. Loyd, 100, died Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Shearer-Richardson Memorial Nursing Home in Okolona. She was born December 9, 1916 in Pontotoc County to Burdis and Mallie Pickens. Addie, known to her family and friends, as “Sis” lived a long life. It was not the length of her life but the donation of her life to serve which will be remembered. She was the primary caregiver for six of her family members, whom she cared for in her home during their times of extended illness. She never complained or criticized, she was loving, unselfish, and beautiful inside and out. Her hospitality and home cooking were always enjoyed and relished by her family, friends, and several Pastors on occasion, through the years.
She was educated in the home and Church, and as evidenced by her success in living life, she learned her lessons well. She was a faithful member of Union Chapel Baptist Church. She loved all of her family with the fierceness of survival. Addie drew her strength from her boundless love for Jesus and family, never said a word against anyone, and always had words of encouragement. She was a humble person who raised her children during the Great Depression.
Sis will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love such a person of kind spirit and graciousness, but her family is comforted by “Standing on the Promises”.
A celebration of her fruitful life will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors. Burial will follow at Eggville Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12 noon to service time only.
Addie is survived by her sister, Opal Henderson of Atlanta, GA; daughter-in-law, Alice Ann Loyd of Shannon; granddaughter, Jeanie Loyd Dale (David) of Wren; great grandchildren, McKenzie McMullins (Andy) of Georgia and Will Hampton (Lane) of Shannon, David B. Dale, III (Sarah) of Missouri City, TX, and Alice Jordan Dale of Houston, TX; several great-great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, and a special niece, Patsy Griffin Goodson of Wren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Cecil C. Loyd, her parents, her only daughter Shirley Jean, when she was only 15 years of age, a son, Cecil Wayne, granddaughter Pamela Jo Hampton, brothers, R. T. Pickens, Abbie Pickens, and Bill Pickens and sister, Rosie May Griffin, all leaving much too soon, and only through her love and trust in God, did she conquer her losses.
