MUSCLE SHOALS – Monday, Congressman Robert Adderholt paid a short visit to North Alabama Regional Airport. Adderholt was in The Shoals for some meetings, and took the opportunity to observe our area’s air-link to the world.
He told Airport Director Barry Griffith that he wanted to stop by and see the airport and see the recent improvements. Griffith was joined by the Airport Board of Directors and Shoals Chamber of Commerce President, Caitlin Holland.
Here’s what Adderholt had to say, ” I’ve always supported the Essential Air Service(EAS) legislation. Because you can’t have air service just in the big cities. You have to connect to those cities, and EAS does that. And EAS also provides a tool for economic development. I’ve supported the legislation when it comes through the Appropriations Committee every year. And believe it or not, there are some members of Congress who don’t support the legislation. I think that most of them are from larger metro areas who don’t really understand the value of having Air Service in rural America. I’m always happy to reach out to governmental agencies such as the FAA to secure funding for improvements, such as Northwest Alabama’s reworking of the runways here.”
