Ada Greatel “Greatchel” Pope Wales, age 90, went to be with her Lord on Monday, October 11th, 2021 in Columbia, Tennessee. She was born June 12th, 1931 to the late Franklin and Cordie Pope of Alabama.
Greatchel married the love of her life, Charles Edmond Wales, on August 16th, 1646, and raised two beautiful children in Columbia.
Greatchel was the first person to be baptized at the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ. She has remained a lifelong member of their church for nearly 77 years. Knowing Greatchel, you knew Church was her life and serving the Lord was her purpose.
The family will be receiving family and friends on Thursday, October 14th, 2021 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home. The funeral service for Ms. Greatchel will be held at the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ at 2:00 PM, with an hour of visitation prior. Dr. Henry Mobley will be officiating. Ms. Greatchel will be laid to rest at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Greatchel is preceded in death by her siblings: Earline Anderson, Rev. Albert (Hayzell) Pope, Edna Jewel Walker, Elizabeth (Henry) Teeples, and Dan (Pauline) Pope.
Greatchel is survived by her children, Jimmy H. Wales and Janice Wales Owens; and siblings: Shelby Jean (Robert) Owens, Allen (Sandra) Pope, and Barbara Ann (Cecil) Kelley.
