SHEFFIELD- Acclaimed acoustic band Act of Congress will perform their unique blend of roots music and pop at the Ritz Theatre on Saturday, Febuary 25, at 7 p.m. An Evening with Act of Congress is made possible by presenting sponsor Pettus Plumbing & Piping. “Act of Congress is definitely not your typical acoustic singer-songwriter band,” says Mollie Holland, board chair for the Tennessee Valley Art Association, which runs The Ritz.
“Their harmonies and melodies are unbelievable, playing genres that cover everything from soothing to rocking. Seeing them live is an incredible experience you don’t want to miss,” says Holland.
The Birmingham-based band has released multiple albums and has toured the world as Cultural
Ambassadors for the U.S. State Department. Act of Congress regularly performs with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and has played for the likes of Disney, SXSW, NPR, Paste, and Billboard.
Holland, who is also the Director of Projects & Group Travel at the Colbert County Tourism &
Convention Bureau, first started listening to the Act of Congress after meeting violinist/singer Connie Skellie. She’s been a big fan ever since, and is excited to help bring the band to the Shoals.
Holland says that this performance is part of a larger plan to provide more high-quality concerts in the area’s great venues. Last year, Colbert County Tourism hosted a “Songwriters in the Round” series, which included a concert at The Ritz. More partnerships between tourism and the theatre are planned in the coming months.
“I am excited for the future of the Ritz Theatre,” says Holland. ‘Our area is fortunate to have a jewel like The Ritz, and I hope visitors and locals alike take advantage of all it offers – plays to films, monthly movie series, and a variety of concerts in the works.”
