FLORENCE-Press Statement from Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office:
“Deputies were there yesterday to serve commitment papers and pick up the subject to be transported for mental evaluation. Deputy McCrary knocked on the door when he arrived and was shot by 35 yr old subject Timothy Vincent Murphy of Florence. Deputy McCrary returned fire also injuring the shooter. Both were flown to Huntsville Hospital where they underwent surgery and are recovering.”
Statement from ALEA and SBI:
“Special Agents with ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) are investigating an officer-involved shooting at the request of the Lauderdale County District Attorney. The shooting occurred today, Feb. 3 at a residence on Ridge Avenue in Florence. It resulted in both a Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Deputy and a male subject being shot. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be turned over to the Lauderdale County District Attorney.”
