Pedestrian-Car-Accident-Graphic-300x225ATHENS-Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement on the accident on Madison at *Pm on Friday, July 10th:

“Last night shortly before 8:00 the police department was notified of an accident on Madison Street between 8th Avenue and 9th Avenue. The accident involved a Ford Windstar van and a child on a bicycle. Officers Derick Brooks and James Rogers investigated the accident. Officers were told the van was going north on Marion Street, as the van approached 9th Avenue the child on the bike crossed in front of the van. The driver didn’t see the child till it was too late and struck the child. The child is Jasmine Sawyers 5 years old from Athens. Jasmine was flown by Med Flight to Huntsville Hospital. I was told early this morning Jasmine was the pediatric intensive care unit.”
