APFuneral for A.P. “Pete” Black Sr., 89, of Athens will be today, October 30, 2015 at 2 p.m. at McConnell Memorial Chapel with Dusty McLemore officiating. Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 1:45 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home.
Mr. Black passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born February 8, 1926 in Limestone County to Charles Marvin Black and Effie Reid Black. He was a retired General Motors dealer and past president of the Alabama Automobile dealers Association. He was a World War II veteran, and a member of Rotary, Shriners and Red Elephant Club. He was an avid golfer. Mr. Black is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce S. Black; and one brother, Charles Black.
He is survived by one son A.P. “AL” Black Jr. and wife, Missy of Navarre, FL; two daughters, Wanda Bailey and Sharon Black, both of Athens; one sister, Sheila B. Lauderdale and husband, Don; three grandchildren, Bart Sandlin, Whitnee Sandlin and A.P. Black III; and two great- grandchildren, Hayden Sandlin and Isabella Sandlin.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Weatherford, Jimmy McDole, Ben Robinson, Dee Lauderdale, Pete Black and Steve Smith.
In lieu of flowers, make donations to Hospice of Limestone County or Wounded Warriors.
