TUSCUMBIA-A Message From Mayor Underwood of Tuscumbia:

“Since being elected last October, one of my biggest goals as Mayor of Tuscumbia has been to recruit not only new businesses to our city, but to begin actively recruiting students and young families to work and live in our beautiful town. This is essential for our long-term growth and prosperity.

A few months ago, I reached out to the University of North Alabama and informed them of my desire to form a sustainable long-term partnership between them and the City of Tuscumbia. I then met with SGA President Hugo Dante and Chief of Staff Chase Holcombe and asked them what we could do to attract students and other young people to our community. They presented several ideas, and we got to work immediately to see which of them we could make happen.

Today, I am excited to announce that the city budget that was recently approved by the City Council includes funding for two internships available exclusively to students at the University of North Alabama. The information for these internships is below. Information about hours and compensation can be found using the student employment portal at career.una.edu.

We are currently working on multiple additional projects in partnership with the University and the Student Government Association that we will be announcing in the coming days and weeks. Stay Tuned!
