Society will be the Society’s speaker at its Fall Quarterly Meeting on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Sheffield Public Library Conference Room located at 316 North Montgomery Avenue, Sheffield at 2:30 p.m.

His PowerPoint presentation of “Local Historical Discoveries from the Southern Claims Commission Records” will provide a glimpse into the area’s Civil War past where local citizens of long ago will be given the opportunity to share their own personal experiences. New light will be cast upon those who had been kept in bondage. Locations for different encampments and movements of soldiers will also be presented thus giving the audience a time capsule snap-shot opportunity to see what was occurring behind the scenes of the military actions and how it affected the lives of local citizens.   Dr. Gregg has researched local Civil War history for over 30 years and he states, “the Southern Claims Commission Records is a secret goldmine of information for those interested in local Civil War history.”

The meeting is free to the public and all are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served at the program’s conclusion.
