FLORENCE-Landon Rich turned 12 on June 3rd and he spent this birthday in the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. This is the third week Brandon has spent in hospital.
On May 25th at his basketball practice Landon did not feel well and was taken to Helen Keller Hospital where he was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage due to a Brain Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM). A condition of poorly formed blood vessels which have a higher rate of bleeding. Brandon was born with this and will require surgery to correct the problem in the near future.
Landon is out of intensive care and into a regular room and will soon start therapy. He is on the way to recovery but the road could be a long and intense one.
Enter Braxton Lovelace a 7-year-old younger brother to Luke, 10 teammate to Landon. Braxton felt the need to help and came up with the idea of a Lemonade stand. Braxton was always helping out at the ball fields, instead of playing ball. He shared a picture of his lemonade stand on Facebook and asked for help.
In all Braxton held his lemonade stand for four days, hoping to raise some money to help the Rich family. But friends and family along with Central, Oakland and Cloverdale fire departments decided Braxton had a great idea and drank lots and lots of lemonade. Braxton raised more than his goal of $1,000.00. He raised $1,425.00.
The Lovelace family went to Birmingham on Monday, June 5th check in hand. Braxton presented the check to Landon and his family, dad Brandon, mom Lindsey along with brothers Logan and Lucas.
One child with an idea and a willingness to help brought a community together in a time of need for one of their own. Braxton is a hero with a lemonade stand. Let us all strive to be more like Braxton Lovelace.
Get well soon Landon.
