THE SHOALS– District 1/Shoals Area Alcoholics Anonymous is once again sponsoring their annual Alcathon: 30 hours of nonstop A.A. meetings. The 2021 Alcathon is hosted by The Sheffield Group, located at 201 E. Second St. in Sheffield, Alabama.
From 12:00 noon on Christmas Eve, December 24th, through 6:00pm on Christmas Day, December 25th, the Alcathon provides fellowship and refreshments on the even hours and open meetings on the odd hours. Open meetings are for anyone who wants to learn more about the A.A. program of recovery from alcoholism. Nonalcoholic may attend open meetings as observers.
The holidays can be challenging for people with alcohol issues – from recovered alcoholics with years of sobriety to those who are trying to find a way to stop drinking for the first time in their lives. Since 1935, Alcoholics Anonymous has been a pathway to sobriety and hope. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2019 data shows that one person was killed every 52 minutes in a drunk-driving crash in the United States. Alcoholism also impacts physical and mental health, finances, and relationships of all types. Don’t let the jolly turn into a drunken folly this year. If you have a problem with drinking, you are not alone.
