Nell StewartElizabeth Nell Perkins Stewart, 89, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2026. She was born March 17, 1937 in Marshall County the daughter of James Wilson Perkins and Sabra Jane Nelson Perkins. She was married to J. V. Stewart for 18 years at the time of his passing February 28, 1971. When the children were young they moved to Detroit, Michigan where she worked as a dietician at Delray Hospital. While living in Michigan the children loved to ice skate and finally talked their mother into trying skating with them. Eventually the kids persuaded her into purchasing skates, so she took them to Goodwill in River Rouge, Michigan, buying them a pair of skates. She learned really fast to stand up in the ice skates to skate. That is when we really found out we were headed back south instead of living up north. She loved the hot days of summer in Alabama and always talked about how much she would love to get back home away from the snow. She missed her family in Alabama and finally convinced J.V. to move the family back south in 1968, building the family home close to her family, never knowing where she put those ice skates. She was always happy with a garden hoe in her hands and canning green beans. She worked for several different manufacturing plants after returning home, Floral Design, Eaton and Ultra Source.

She is survived by a daughter: Patricia Prosser (Fred); grandchildren: Jennifer Jarmon, Kristina Cater, Jay Prosser and Charles Bowman; great grandchildren: Madison Garrett, Selena Prosser, Maria Prosser, Kylan Prosser, Hunter Prosser and Riley Garrett; sisters: Sarah Tidmore and Linda Suttles (Gary); brother: Pete Perkins; host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband: J. V. Stewart; son: James William Stewart; daughters: Rebecca Sue Stewart Bowman and Mary Lee Stewart; parents: James Wilson and Sabra Jane Perkins; siblings: Marie Dean (Lloyd), Junie Mae Royster (Richard), Addie Lee Bolding (Johnny) and Brenda Serbert (Robert).
