TUSCUMBIA — Due to forecasted rainy weather, the Cane Creek Canyon Spring Kickoff Fundraiser originally scheduled for this weekend has been postponed. The event will now take place on Saturday, May 23, with the full schedule and programming remaining the same.

The public is invited to celebrate the arrival of spring at the Cane Creek Canyon Spring Kickoff Fundraiser, a full day of outdoor recreation, education, and live entertainment at Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve (CCCNP).

This family-friendly event is free to attend, with donations encouraged to support ongoing maintenance and conservation efforts at the preserve. All contributions made during the event directly benefit the care and stewardship of Cane Creek Canyon.

Guests can enjoy a variety of activities throughout the day, including guided hikes, live music, hands-on environmental education, and more. Attendees are encouraged to bring a camp chair or blanket for seating.

The event begins at 9:30 a.m. with a relaxing yoga session, followed by a guided Upper Loop Hike at 10:00 a.m. Participants will explore scenic highlights such as Lacefield Falls, Lacefield Point, and the Canyon Rim Trail on this approximately two-mile, easy to moderate hike led by experienced guides. All participants must sign a waiver to take part in any hiking activities throughout the day.

At 11:30 a.m., guests can unwind with live music from The Cliftones before enjoying a complimentary lunch at noon, provided by the CCCNP Advisory Board, featuring hotdogs, chips, fruit, and drinks.

Afternoon programming includes “Critters in the Creek” at 1:00 p.m., an interactive experience where participants will sample and identify aquatic macroinvertebrates in Waterfall Creek. This hands-on activity is ideal for families, and participants are encouraged to wear water shoes.

At 2:00 p.m., a Wildflower Hike will guide visitors through vibrant spring blooms, encouraging appreciation and photography while promoting responsible enjoyment of natural areas.

The day concludes with an Archery 101 session and friendly tournament from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Participants ages 10 and older can learn safe and proper archery techniques, with all equipment provided. A signed waiver is required.

The event will wrap up at 4:30 p.m., with a shared commitment to leaving no trace and preserving the natural beauty of the canyon.

This event is made possible in part through the generous support of Essity and The Joel R. Anderson Family Foundation, whose investments help advance environmental education efforts at Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve.
