Bobby Joe “Jody” Nunley, age 81 of Winchester, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Highpoint Health Winchester. Jody was born on December 23, 1944, in Pelham to the late Lillard Bayo “LB” and Iva Lee (Oliver) Nunley. He was a 1964 class graduate of Grundy County High School where he played football and later was inducted into the Grundy County Football Hall of Fame. All-around athlete Jody played softball for the Church League and Mountain Valley League. Jody started his working career at Palmer Machine in Shelbyville and retired from Micro-Craft after many years of service. His creative passion and artistic mind created beautiful poetry and handmade items not limited to arrowheads, knives and wooden whistles. Peaceful outdoor time was his quite time, whether it was fishing, hunting, metal detecting or collecting Indian artifacts. Jody had an interest in learning and sharing his knowledge about the different kinds of trees, plants, and birds. He enjoyed family vacations to the beach, mountains and other places out west. He will be remembered by his family and friends as an amazing man with unconditional love for his family and always having an answer for everything. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Nunley; and brothers, Hoss Nunley and Chuck Nunley. Jody is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Edith Nunley; daughter, Mona Beth (Mark) Montoye; daughter-in-law, Marti Nunley; grandchildren, Brandi (Cole) Scott, Karsyn Nunley, Raegan Nunley, and Major Montoye; great-grandchildren, Charlotte Ann Scott, Shepard Scott and Sawyer Scott; brothers, Danny (Melissa) Nunley Sr, A.C. (Cathy) Nunley, and Frankie (Sharon) Nunley; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 2:00pm – 4:00pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with a celebration of life following at 4:00pm from the chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Rutherford officiating.
