Madison County Deputies Apprehended Escaped Inmate – Multiple Charges Filed

HUNTSVILLE – On April 14, 2026, deputies conducted a check on a suspicious vehicle at a Microtel located on Shields Road. The occupants were identified as  Jacob Bastiaans and a female, Miranda Bullard. During the encounter, Bastiaans fled the scene in the vehicle. Bastiaans was later apprehended after fleeing on foot but was transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment of an alleged foot injury. While at the hospital, Bastiaans escaped from custody.
During the subsequent search, Bastiaans unlawfully entered a residence in the 300 block of Williams Avenue, where he stole a firearm and a black, newer-model Toyota 4Runner.

Road. Bastiaans again fled on foot but was ultimately apprehended following a coordinated effort between the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the Huntsville Police Department. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has assumed the investigation of the additional charges related to this incident.

Bastiaans has been charged with the following:
•Attempting to Elude (x2)
•Burglary, 3rd Degree
•Theft of Property, 1st Degree
•Theft of Property, 2nd Degree
•Escape, 3rd Degree
In coordination with the court, bond was set at a total of $3,240,000, which includes updated bond amounts related to additional trafficking charges.
Sheriff Kevin Turner stated, “This case is a direct result of strong coordination and teamwork among local law enforcement. I’m proud of the seamless effort between our deputies and the Huntsville Police Department to quickly locate and apprehend this individual. That level of cooperation is critical to keeping our community safe.”
This case remains under active investigation.
