Michael Jon Chynoweth of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on Saturday April 11, 2026.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, with the service immediately following. He will be laid to rest at Valhalla Memorial Gardens, Huntsville, Alabama.
Michael was born in Huntsville, Alabama to Robert “Bob” and Janet Chynoweth on July 13, 1961. He grew up in Huntsville but traveled many summers with his family to Hancock, Michigan to visit and celebrate his Finnish family heritage. He attended J.O. Johnson High School in the late 70s. In 1979, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and was an Aviation Machinist Mate (AD3). He worked on helicopters and other aircraft engines and was stationed in Miami, Florida. He had assignments and training in Guantanamo Bay, Little Rock, Arkansas, Alameda, California, and Elizabeth City, North Carolina and was Honorably Discharged in 1983. He carried that skill set into his career in maintenance for businesses, hotels, and apartments. For the past 14 years, he was employed as an associate at Kroger Grocery Store.
Michael loved golf, Alabama football, the Miami Dolphins, and movies. Above all, he was a devout Christian and was rarely seen without a pocket Bible. He was proud of his children, sharing a close bond with his son and valuing the time they spent together over the years.
Michael was preceded in death by his father and mother, Bob and Janet Chynoweth, and his brother, Rob Chynoweth. He is survived by his two children, Ashley Ellis (Drew) of Birmingham and Adam Chynoweth of Huntsville; his sister, Jayna Baker of Madison; his brothers, Andy Chynoweth of Huntsville and Jeff Chynoweth of Rainsville; as well as his two nieces.
