Hilda Marie Thomas, 93 of Winfield, formerly of Arab, passed away Tuesday April 7, 2026. She was born October 31, 1932, in Jackson County the youngest child of Capron F. Gibbs and Essie Mae Crow Gibbs. She was a graduate of Jackson County High School. She was married to Douglas Truett Thomas for 53 years at the time of his passing March 10, 2005. While a residence of Arab she was a faithful member of the Arab First Baptist Church. Shortly after the passing of her husband, she moved to Winfield to be close to her children and became a member of Winfield First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children: Kathy Spruiell (Dale), Milford Earl Thomas and Dr. Gary Douglas Thomas (Lisa); grandchildren: Anna Kittinger, Lawson Spruiell (Amy), Murray Spruiell (Holly), Douglas Reed Thomas (Caroline) and Ella Thomas; great grandchildren: Jackson, Adalae, Pace, Sawyer, Emmy, Colin and Davis; host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband: Doug Thomas; parents: C. F. and Essie Gibbs; siblings: Wilma Wilbanks and C. F. Gibbs, Jr.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Gober Funeral Chapel with Dr. Paul Murphy officiating. The burial will follow in Arab Memorial Cemetery, Gober Funeral Chapel directing.
Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Gober Funeral Chapel.
