Betty Nelle Syler, age 73 of Huntland, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at her residence. She was born on April 16, 1952, in Ft. Benning, Georgia, to the late Henry Alexis and Elizabeth Frances (Ruch) Atkinson. Betty Nelle was a 1970 graduate of Huntland High School. She went on to earn her associate degree in Dental Hygiene from the Health Sciences program at UT Memphis in 1973. She started her professional career working as a dental hygienist for Dr. Henry Atkinson and was currently working for Dr. Rick Courtney. Artistic and crafty by nature, Betty Nelle enjoyed flower gardening as well as cooking, becoming known for her famous brownies, snickerdoodles, and lemon cookies. She was an avid sports fan, particularly cheering for the University of Tennessee Volunteers football and basketball teams as well as the Atlanta Braves. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her hygienist friends. Caring and loving, Betty Nelle was always there to lend a helping hand and never asked for anything. She was a devoted Christian and member of Maxwell Baptist Church, where she had played the piano for years and currently played the organ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Thomas Syler. Betty Nelle is survived by her loving children, Carey (Jason) Lafevers; Karen Latham; and Alex (Lauren) Syler; grandchildren, Sarah Lafevers Hunt, Jace Lafevers, Josie Lafevers, Rachel (Drew) Warren, and Dylan Latham; great-grandchildren, Bentley Hunt, Everly Hunt, and Nolan Warren; siblings, Henry (Elisa) Atkinson and Richard (Jackie) Atkinson; several nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, Earl Syler. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 9, 2026, in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Robertson officiating.
