Leota went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 22nd, 2026, at the age of 94. She went peacefully in her sleep after a short battle with pneumonia at her residence, Limestone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Leota was born on September 2nd, 1931, to Harlan and Nellie Davis in Saybrook, IL. She was the 9th out of 11 siblings which have all preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was Glen Donoho (1st Husband), and William Green (2nd husband); her youngest daughter, Jane Donoho; and son-in-law, Ronald Mayfield, as well as her mother and father.
Leota is survived by her three daughters, Gloria Mayfield, Glenda Davis, and Janet (Craig) Gramm. Her grandchildren, Buck, (Donna, fiancée) Mayfield, Brett Mayfield, Brooke (Stephen) Sitterly, Felicia (Adam) Perkins, Brandon (Crystal) Gramm. And great-grandchildren, Nate, Cassie, Skylar Mayfield, Patrick, Jacob and Matthew Mayfield, Trey and Kade Sitterly, and Adelaide Elizabeth Perkins.
Leota was a resident of the Joliet and Plainfield Illinois area for most of her adult life. She moved to Huntsville, Alabama, in 2021, to be closer to some of her family until the time of her death.
She worked at Sears Robuck Co. for several years in the bookkeeping department and ended her retail career at Marshall fields as a human resource assistant and dock supervisor. She retired from there in 1999.
She loved to sew and embroider when she was younger. She loved to sing hymns and praises with her beautiful alto voice at each church that she attended and was a member of. She enjoyed being a Sunday School teacher and Awana leader and loved working with the children at church. But most of all she loved Jesus with all her heart and loved serving Him through the different ministries that she was involved in. We thank you, Mom, for always having us, your children, in church every Sunday and throughout the week, learning to love Jesus like you did. She also loved spending time with her family, and spoiling those grandchildren of hers.
As per Leota’s wishes, cremation rites are being accorded.
A cremation interment will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois, where both husbands are buried.
We, the family of Leota, would like to thank all of her “Lodge” family at The Lodge on Jones Rd. for always helping and being there for our mom when she needed that extra help and for their friendship during the time that she lived there. We would also like to thank the Nurses, CNA’s and the staff at Limestone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for taking such good care of our mom. We appreciate you all so much.
And finally and most of all, thank you to Craig Gramm for taking such great care of our mom. For always making sure she was being taken care of, and going over and beyond for our family.
