It is with gratitude and sadness we announce the passing of James T. Mills, affectionately known as “Tad,” born April 1, 1940, who passed away on March 22, 2026. Tad proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a true patriot. His life reflected honor and a deep love for both his nation and his family. A man of quiet strength and gentle kindness. He had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. He loved old cars and pickup trucks and old music-especially the timeless songs of Elvis Presley.
Tad was a man of faith. He lived his beliefs daily, with kindness, grace and steadfast trust. Through every season of life, his faith remained strong, and now we take comfort in knowing he is receiving the promise he so deeply believed.
For almost 60 years, Tad shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Lynn Teresa Mills, whom he loved deeply. Together they built a home filled with faith, love and enduring commitment. As a father, he was patient and caring. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.
Those left behind to cherish him memory are his wife, children, Tonia Martin (Jeff) and Ted Mills; grandchildren, Breanna Rackard Greenwood, Ridge Martin and Rhett Martin; great-grandchildren, Anniston, Tristan, Titus and Grayson; a special mother-in-law, Miss Eloise “Weezie” Lee; sister-in-law, Vivian Lee and brother-in-law, James Lee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dexter and Ethel Mills; son, Timothy M. Mills; brothers, Charles Mills, Edward Mills and Jay Mills; sisters, Fannie Sue Vinson and Dorothy Bain.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Ridge Martin, Rhett Martin, Jake Lee, Michael Rickard, Michael Lindley and Rodney Melson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 1-3 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. with Bro. David Kelley and Bro. Jimmy Massey officiating followed by military honors. Burial will be in Red Bay City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.
