Ruby Elizabeth Glass, 97, of Woodville, passed away Thursday.

Ruby was born to Joe Allen Sneed and Clara Keel Sneed in Ikard Hollow at the north end of Little Cove in Madison County, Alabama. She often told the story of her birth …..her mother told her brothers that Santa was bringing a baby for Christmas, and maybe a baby sister. She was born on December 25, 1928 and expected two presents. Times were hard for her sharecropping parents and they got worse a year after her birth with the Great Depression hit. A Turing point in her life came when the family moved to Butler Bottom (aka- Big Bottoms) on the east side of Paint Rock River. She grew to adulthood there and it was a blessed journey. Her fondest memories are of her childhood among the wonders of nature.
She met and married the one and only love of her life, Eugene Glass, at the tender age of 16. They were together for 72 years.
They left Big Bottoms moving to Butler Mill on the south side of the river in Madison County, Alabama. They made their home on Red Hill (old timey name) by the Kennamer Cemetery where she will again be by Eugene’s side.

Ruby embraced the “old ways “! She would often lament “what’s the world coming to”. She loved quilting. Nothing would bring a smile to her face more than someone admiring her handiwork. She lived the country life gardening, canning, and farming.

She loved fishing and spent many hours of her life with various family members on the banks of rivers, lakes, ponds and creeks. She also loved her antiques and special “finds”.

Her faith in the Lord never wavered in hard or happy times. She trained in the nurture and admonition of the Lord and they have not departed.
She was serious, caring, and loving mother and wife. She lived a long and fruitful life and among her last words were “ I want to go to Heaven and be with my friends and family.

She was preceded in death by husband, Willie Eugene Glass; father, Joe Allen Sneed; and mother, Clara Sneed.

Surviving are daughter, Elaine White; daughter, Nancy (Ronald) Salmon; and son, Carl (Mary Lou) Glass.

Visitation will be Sunday 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel, Sunday at 3:00 PM with Bro. Scotty McLaughlin officiating. Pallbearers will be Daniel Salmon, David Glass, Aaron Mosher, Jimmy Powers, Ronald Salmon, Kenny White, and Honorary Pallbearers will be Joel Miller, Joe Frazier, Charles Hereford and Robert Hereford.
