REGINA ROTH DEMBO died on March 8, 2026. She was born October 1, 1926, in Vienna, Austria, the eldest daughter of Maryam Rubin Roth and Isidor Roth. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Erwin Roth; her beloved husband, Michael M. Dembo; and her sister, Suzanne Roth Bernstein.
She is survived by her daughters, Margaret D. Gore (Richard), and Elizabeth D. Miller (Solomon); five grandchildren, Isabelle Miller (Pedro Aguiar), Louis Miller, Diana Gore Robinson (Aaron), Elizabeth Gore, and George Gore (Douglas); great-grandchildren, Raphaella, Lily, and Benjamin Cesar, and Alice Robinson; her sister, Herta Roth Walcoff; and her foster sister, Lois Schwager and foster brother, Edward Herzig (Jane).
At age twelve, Mrs. Dembo was forced to flee Vienna with her two younger sisters because of religious persecution. Her parents and brother later perished in the Holocaust.
She settled in New York City and graduated from Hunter College. While living in New York she met and married Michael Dembo, a civil engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. His assignments took the family to Pakistan, California, and Washington, D.C., before they settled in Huntsville, Alabama, in 1968. Mrs. Dembo was a longtime member of Temple B’nai Sholom and a beloved fourth-grade teacher at Weatherly Elementary School for many years.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family.
A private family burial was held on March 13, 2026.
