Martha was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1943, in Beaverton, Alabama, to the late Roy Weeks and Lula Jeanette Weeks. She grew up surrounded by family in the Beaverton community, carrying with her the strong values of faith, family, and hard work that would guide her throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Juanita Taylor, Patricia Andreson, Virginia Franks and Deborah Moore; her brothers Joe Mack Weeks, Clyde Weeks, Mike Weeks, and Kenny Weeks; and her beloved grandson, Jonathan Guyton.
Martha leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her children Deborah Guyton Jones (Donald) of Winfield, Alabama; Rhonda Guyton Killian (Kenny) of Citronelle, Alabama; DeWayne Guyton (Kellie) of Winfield, Alabama; and Jason Guyton (Jennie) of Burlington, Iowa.
She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Patricia, Krista, Leon, Eugene, Kayla, Nathan, Violet, Elizabeth, Jarid, Jonathan (deceased), Alisan, Elaine, Tate, Adaliea, and Jeb. She is also survived by her sisters Peggy Weeks, Tammy Weeks, and Sonya Allred, and her brother Steve Weeks, along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved her dearly.
Martha devoted more than 35 years of her life to the nursing profession. She first served as a Licensed Practical Nurse before becoming a Registered Nurse, dedicating her career to caring for others with compassion and skill. Her favorite area of nursing was psychiatric care during the years she lived in Hamilton, Illinois, where she found deep purpose in helping patients through some of their most difficult moments. Outside of her career, Martha had a creative spirit and a deep love for simple joys. She was an avid reader and a talented quilter. Many family members proudly own quilts she lovingly made by hand, each stitch a quiet expression of her love. She especially enjoyed creating quilts for her grandchildren, gifts that will continue to warm hearts and homes for generations.
Martha will be remembered for her caring heart and her deep devotion to her family. Though she will be greatly missed, the love she poured into the lives of those around her will remain a lasting legacy.
The children of Martha would like to recognize the love and devotion given to our mother in her last days to her loving granddaughter, Patricia Moncrief who sacrificed so much time, energy and patience in caring for our mother. Patricia was there for Martha, non-stop, especially in her final days. We love you so much for all you’ve done.
