Richard York, 81 of Arab, the Grassy community, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at his residence. He was born September 15, 1944, in Whitesburg, Kentucky, the son of Albert R. York and Vada Ison York. He was a dedicated spouse to Sandra Webb York. He honorably served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church and was ordained into the ministry, serving as pastor at West Point Baptist Church, Westside Baptist Church, and New Beginnings Baptist Church. Richard was affiliated with the Arab Masonic Lodge #663, where he previously served as Past Master. He was also a member of the Huntsville Scottish Rites and the Cahaba Shrine. Richard liked to travel and had been to every U.S. state except Alaska. He also took pleasure in eating out and making memories with his family and friends. He was an avid golfer and, typically, achieved scores equivalent to his age. He demonstrated a strong commitment to fellowship, compassion, and dedication to God, his country and especially his family.
He is survived by his wife: Sandra York; son: Ricky York (Venita Smith); daughter, Jennifer York Rathmann (David); stepsons: Adam Clemons (Jessica) and Daniel Clemons (Charity); grandchildren: Logan Teall and Kendall Teall; step grandchildren: Anna Claire Clemons and Judson Clemons; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Vada York; a sister and seven brothers.
Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Gober Funeral Chapel with Brother Andy Brown officiating. The burial with military honors will be in Brookwood Cemetery, Gober Funeral Chpael directing.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Gober Funeral Chapel.
