John Wayne Vineyard passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle in Columbus, MS. John was born in Skene, Mississippi on June 20, 1951, to John Thomas and Viola Frazier Vineyard. John attended Skene Elementary and later graduated from Shaw High School. He went on to Delta State University where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business with a concentration in Marketing and Finance. He later joined the United States National Guard where he served for six years. After his service in the National Guard, John joined the workforce with Borg Warner as a sales representative in Jackson, Mississippi. He also worked many years in the insurance industry. John took special interest in outdoor activities such as hunting and canoeing. He also took pride in raising funds for various volunteer fire departments. John loved keeping up with his grandchildren’s activities and supporting their sporting endeavors. John was a faithful member at West Heights Baptist Church where early on he loved to sing in the choir. He was a dedicated participant of Gary Carroll’s Adult Men’s Sunday School Group.
Services will be Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 1:00pm at West Heights Baptist Church. Dr. David Hamilton will officiate. Immediately following, a graveside service will be held at West Heights cemetery, led by Bro. Jimmy Flake.
Survivors, wife of 47 years, Emily Clark Vineyard; two loving sons, Clark Vineyard (Misty) and Christopher Vineyard (Stephanie); John was a loving “Papaw” to five grandchildren, Lucas (17), Carter (16), Westin (13), Ruby-Lin (11) and Ella Jane (10). In addition, he leaves behind his brother, Don Vineyard (LaBon) of Brandon, MS.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his siblings Charles Vineyard and June McDaniel, his brother-in-law Major McDaniel and sister-in-law Nell Vineyard.
Pallbearers will be his nephews Tommy Vineyard, Xan Vineyard, Tom Turner, David Bailey, Taylor Vance and Chase Tidmore. Honorary pallbearers will be the Gary Carroll’s Men’s Sunday School Class.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 4, 2026, 11:00am until service time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Heights Baptist Church Music Ministry or your local volunteer fire department.
