Mary Capps, age 81 of Dora, passed away on Sunday February 15, 2026. She attended Sumiton Church of God. She retired from Bell South. She ministered as a Christian Clown named Butterfly. She was a volunteer at several church events.
She was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Nova Akins; parents, Everett and Violet Owens; brothers, William “Bill” Owens, and Johnny “Fred” Owens; niece, Billi Owens; and sister, Freda Owens.
Survivors include her children, Kim Watkins (Lloyd “Birl”), and James Capps (Natasha); grandchildren, Brittan Watkins, Lauren Akins (Josh), Isabella Capps, Jadyn Capps, Evan Capps, and Violet Capps; great-grandchildren, Adley Watkins, Lilly Akins, Elijah Akins, Phoenix Watkins, Dayson Hornsby, and Tannon Carver; siblings, Lois Renshaw (Bruce), and Malcolm “Mac” Owens; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday February 21, 2026 at 2:00pm in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be prior at 12:30-2pm. Rev. Lloyd “Birl” Watkins will officiate. Burial will follow in New Horizon Memorial Gardens.
