Stephen UnderwoodStephen Sharp Underwood went to be with his Lord on February 4, 2026. He was the son of Neslie Vincent and Mary Emma Underwood and was born in Rockwood, TN on February 9, 1934. After high school, he received a B.S. degree and Army commission upon graduation from Middle Tennessee State University. He served as an ambulance company commander in Japan and Korea. Stephen taught and then served as principal of Mitchell-Neilson Elementary school in Murfreesboro, TN while working on an M.A. degree in Education. He then completed an Ed.D. degree at the University of Alabama. He served as a faculty member at The University of Alabama at Birmingham for 36 years with an emphasis in science and aerospace education. Stephen was instrumental in developing a nationally recognized program in science education, ALAHASP. He was inducted into The Crown Circle of the National Congress of Aviation and Space Education. He was awarded Professor Emeritus status at retirement. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Cora Jean Blair Underwood, his son, Daniel John Underwood, and 3 grandchildren, Sydney, Adelaide, and Warrick. Stephen and Jean attend the Greenwood Hills Chapel in Chambersburg PA where he served as a Bible teacher. His passion was to see people accept the Lord as Savior and grow in their love and service for Him.
