Barbara Estina Greb Boomershine, age 85, died peacefully in her home in Huntsville, Alabama, on February 3, 2026. Barbara was born on July 4, 1940, in Davenport, Iowa, to Edward and Helen Greb. She was baptized in 1953 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in East Moline, Illinois, a place that marked the beginning of a lifelong journey shaped by faith, service, and community. She graduated from United Township High School in East Moline in 1958.
As a young woman, Barbara was deeply involved in the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, where she served as Worthy Advisor and was honored with the Grand Cross of Color. In 1959, she married Dan Boomershine. Together, they raised seven children before later divorcing in 1986.
Barbara earned an Associate’s Degree in Information Technology from Pikes Peak Community College in 1988 and was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society. Her working career was spent primarily in office administration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). She retired from the Federal Government in 2003 after many years of dedicated service.
Throughout her life, Barbara lived in Illinois, Connecticut, Virginia, South Carolina, Colorado, Alabama, and Arizona, forming friendships and communities wherever she went. In retirement, she remained actively engaged through the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), Chapter 443 in Huntsville, Alabama. She held several leadership roles and also served as Alabama State Federation Vice-President for District III, North Alabama.
Barbara found joy in crafts, trivia games, volunteering at the senior center, trips to casinos, and watching football—especially cheering on the Denver Broncos. She also cherished the companionship of her beloved cat, Angie.
She is survived by her children, Joline Gugliemino (Rich), Tim Boomershine (Lisa), Dana Roberts (Steve), Marla Dorsee (Jen), Alison Haugerud (Neil), and Jon Boomershine (Kristen Egan); her grandchildren, Bethany, Anna, Nathan, Braden, Aiden, Micah, and Charlotte; and her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Charles. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Helen Greb; her siblings, Karen and Larry; her infant daughter, Victoria; and her son, Curtis.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Will Starkweather officiating.
