Ms. Bettye Jane Thomas Crumbly, 98, of Scottsboro, passed away peacefully, February 1, 2026. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Shandy Dill officiating.

She loved her family, friends, and church family dearly. She would often be seen walking throughout downtown Scottsboro and visiting friends in the nursing homes every weekend.

She retired from Scottsboro City Board of Education in 1989 after 23 years of service and would often volunteer to help out in any way she could after retirement.

She is survived by her children, Thomas (Tommy) Crumbly; Martha Nixon Shelton (Tommy), grandchildren, Katie Crumbly Burke (Tim); Toby Crumbly (April); Stephanie White Hinkle (Joey); Shannon Nixon Kilpatrick (Jeremy); Ashley Nixon Ransom; several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughters, Betty Nanette Crumbly; Florence Elaine White; parents, Bentley and Zelma Thomas; brothers, Tim Thomas; William Thomas; sisters, Mary Nell Shelton; Ruth Blythe, Ruby Butler.

The family would like to especially say thank you for the outstanding care that was given to our mother / grandmother by her in home caregivers: Marcella Pendergrass, Queen Humphrey, Sandy Culver and Irene Paradise.

The family would also like to acknowledge Highlands Nursing Home and Heartlite Hospice for the exceptional love and professional care mother received.
