It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our sister, Nina Ruth Akins. She passed away peacefully at the age of 73 at Fairhaven Nursing Home in Birmingham, AL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James H “Dick” and Augusta Akins, her son William Jeffery Baxter and her sister Janice Rebecca Akins,
She is survived by her sister Sherry O’Brien, her brother Eddie Akins, her sister Doris Kruse (Jim) and her sister Kathy Lewis (David). Along with many nieces and nephews.
She was a devoted nurse with love and compassion for her patients.
She was a beautiful woman inside and out. She loved her family dearly and gave us her heart so freely. She loved to work in her flower beds and in the garden. And sitting on the beach reading a book was a delight to her.
We will miss Nina every day, but we know that she is happy and at peace now.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 7, 2026, between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, services will begin at 11:00 a.m.
There will be a small, family only, graveside service at a later time.
