John Dicus Throgmorton Obituary Mr. John Dicus Throgmorton was born May 22, 1943 in Waynesboro, TN in the Eagle Creek Community to his parents the late Mr. James “Doc” Rufus Throgmorton and Mrs. Opal Mae Dicus Throgmorton.  Mr. John Throgmorton spent his childhood on Eagle Creek and the Clifton area, graduating from Frank Hughes High with the class of 1961. Afterwards, he would follow his passion for mechanics, attending and graduating from the Nashville Auto Diesel College. In his young adult years, he would meet his wife Mrs. Dorothy Mae Brewer and the two would wed February 13,1964 forever intertwining their hearts in lives. The two would make Collinwood their home setting roots in Wayne County and raising their children in the admonition of the Lord as he and his wife are members of the Burns Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Iron City, TN.  He also felt a strong bond for his community and served as a member of Loge # 702 in Collinwood for many years. Being a hard worker and excellent provider for his family, throughout his occupational years he worked for the Genesco Boot Manufacturing and spent over 20 years working for TVA as a machinist. In his leisure time he could be found watching the “Tennessee Vols” play football whenever they took the field, and watching WCHS football and basketball and watching his grandson work as the manager for WCHS in Waynesboro, TN.  He possessed a deep love for his family and loved to teach his grandson Luke about mechanics and the function of various tools.  Those who knew him best will remember his love for his God, family and the moments spent with his wife children and grandson, his community and friends. Mr. John Dicus Throgmorton passed at his home surrounded by family on January 24,2026 making his stay on this earth some 82 years, 4 months and 2 days.

 

Those left to honor his memory include his wife of over 60 years Mrs. Dorothy Mae Brewer Throgmorton; daughter Beverly Lynn Throgmorton and grandson Luke Throgmorton Mangubat all of Collinwood, TN; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other family members, friends and loved ones.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son Dr. Danny Wayne Throgmorton; brother Charles Milburn Throgmorton and sister-in-law Charlene Throgmorton

 

Funeral Services with Masonic Rites will be held Monday February 02, 2026 at 11:00 am at Burns Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Iron City, TN with Edward Burbak and Jason Roberson. Burial will follow in the Walker Family Cemetery in Clifton, TN.

 

Visitation with the Throgmorton family will begin Sunday February 01, 2026 beginning at 5:00 pm till 8:00 pm and again on Monday from 9:00 am till 11:00 am service time all at the Burns Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.
