James Delane “Butch” Rhodes, 77 of Gardendale, passed away Tuesday January 27, 2026.
Mr. Rhodes was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was retired from Alabama Power Co.
He was a devoted family man, who had a special love for his grandchildren, and they were involved in doing. He was an avid Alabama football fan. His favorite NFL teams were the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.
He was preceded in death by his wife Cynthia Moore Rhodes; his stepdaughter, Toby Kimbrell Horne, and his parents, Lem and Geraldine Rhodes.
Survivors include his daughters, Alanna Sokira and husband John, and Nikki Sanford and husband Danny; grandchildren, Mary Jo Abrams (Devonte), Abby Manning (Jake), Gracie Sanford and Sarah Beth Sanford;
great grandchildren, Briggs and Huxley Abrams, and Spencer Manning; step-grandson, Gage Horne; sister, Sandra Arnold (the late Wesley Arnold); several other relatives and many friends.
A Memorial service will be held at a time to be announced at Republic Baptist Church. Rev. Guy Moore will officiate. His cremains will be interred in New Horizon Memorial Gardens.
